Cord has been BBB accredited since the 1950's, I have no doubt that for many decades they probably provided outstanding service. However, that is not the case anymore. This is a large company that clearly doesn't value or respect customers. If you need to hire movers, look elsewhere.
Our contract with Cord included an insurance policy to cover damages, but unfortunately their claims process is highly subjective and unfair. In fact they denied our claim on the mattress stating "You did not allow us the opportunity to inspect the dirt/damage". I wasn't about to leave the mattress dirty and instruct my pregnant wife to either sleep on a dirty mattress or on the couch. I guess we could have taken pictures of the dirt, but we were exhausted and sleep deprived. However pictures of said dirt/damage wouldn't have sufficed, Cord claims that pictures of the damage or not sufficient in providing proof. We have filed a complaint with BBB and the Missouri Insurance Commissioner to resolve the bad faith claims effort by Cord. I didn't want it to come to this, but they left me with no choice.
My family hired Cord for a local move (St. Louis City to St. Louis County) on 7/29. The original estimate for our move was $1900. This seemed like and astronomical price for a local move, however we have had negative experiences with movers in the past and assumed "you get what you pay for". Sadly this assumption could not be further from the truth.
I tried getting an estimate, the appointment was confirmed, I skewed around my day to be home and then 15 minutes after the arrival time Erin called that she wasn't coming.
3. Many of the workers were smokers and didn't hesitate to smoke every chance they got. Often times smoking in the back of the truck or near the rear of the truck (loaded with our property). A lot of our property smelled of smoke when they were done.
She then said she'd call again to sort out more details in an hour, but then never called. I called back and she didn't pick up or return the call. Shoddy service even from the sales staff is surprising and disappointing.
1. My wife and I had to call all of our old neighbors and personally apologize for the very loud and profane language being used by the workers outside of our home. I use colorful language and don't consider myself proper, but the workers went far above and beyond what is considered acceptable.
2. One of the workers spent the majority of his time on his cell phone, not utilizing a hand free device. Thus making it very difficult for him to carry/move things. (Cord did agree to refund us for this worker's time, but we have yet to receive this refund 5 weeks removed from the move).

This statement is 100% inaccurate. The movers they sent to our home (5 total) were some of the most unprofessional workers I have ever hired. Examples:
If the issues stopped there we wouldn't be too upset, but unfortunately it did not. They treated our personal property as if it were something they stepped in. Our mattress was not wrapped/protected in any way. The movers simply drug it across the pavement/yard/mulch. They made no attempt to keep it off the ground. We had to vacuum the surface dirt off before we felt comfortable sleeping on it. In addition to the mattress they broke a desk lamp, damaged a coffee table, broke the feet off an entertainment center and damaged a gun safe. Again, we hired Cord based on their "we are professionals" claim. Surely I am not the first client to have a gun safe and my safe is not a large one, but they acted like they had never moved one before. I watched in agony as they shuffled and pushed the safe across many feet rough concrete. In doing so they scratched/damaged the powder coating on the bottom of the safe beyond repair.
