Went shopping around St. Louis for a pair of bikes and ended up at this store. Every other independent bike store we went to in St. Louis offered a 10% discount with the purchase of two bikes, but not Big Shark. When asking what type of discount, they said “No discounts on our bikes because we offer free fitting and tune ups”. Hmm...similar to other stores that offered 10%. Okay, fine. But then the gentleman that helped us was not friendly at all. We went back and forth and even decided to upgrade and it all came down to picking a color. The color we wanted was only available in Nebraska and the employee said “we only ship in extreme cases”. So this was not an option for us. Guess we aren’t valuable enough customers to get a bike shipped. Needless to say, the customer service here is terrible. Not once did they make us feel like valued customers. For two people excited to get into the world of bicycling, our first time experience was soured thanks to Big Shark.
Brought my bicycle in a few times and got on the spot service, even as they were closing. Was shown how to make repairs for the next time it happened. Only spent money on spare parts. Great shop.
My second bike purchase from Big Shark was amazing. Impeccable attention to detail, amazing value and a very patient staff were all hallmarks of my experience. Mike definitely took care of me and enlisted the help and opinions of his staff to make sure the fitting and components we exhaustively accurate. The bike purchasing process couldn't have gone any more smoothly or better! THANK YOU!
Update - They called back apologized for not getting back. Big plus! They did see my review. I do appreciate the call back. Added a star. -- Original - Meh... they answered a few questions, took a little time to show a few bikes. I bought one. I asked to have them order an accessory (kick stand)... call me when they got it. Never heard back. Wished I would have bought from my regular bike shop (The Cyclery Edwardsville). Felt kinda bad I didn't. Went to them for accessories (including kick stand).
GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO TRAILHEAD CYCLES OR BALLWIN CYCLES!! I went in Big Shark hoping to find good deals and good helpful employees. Needless to say the help was less than good, the employees were not near friendly or ambitious. Also, there were no deals to be had. I give Big Shark two stars for their selection of bikes.
