I moved to the area in Spring 2014 and began searching for a vet for my small dog. I came across Jewell Animal Clinic and was delighted at how fast and easy it was to book an appointment, as well as how flexible their clinic hours were. Getting in after work was no problem, but even better, they offered the option for me to drop her off in the morning and pick her up at the end of the day. When I went to pick up my pup that evening, Dr. Smith brought her to me and discussed her health from nose to tail. To say Dr. Smith is thorough is an understatement. Working in the pet care industry, I'm fascinated with the practice of veterinary medicine and Dr. Smith always takes extra time (to humor me!) and explain anything and everything with great detail. I NEVER feel rushed when I'm at her clinic and always get my questions answered. And speaking of taking extra time, I've seen her do so much as keep the clinic open late because a young girl called about coming in with her sick guinea pig. She's not a "clock in, clock out" kind of doctor.
DO NOT ADOPT A PET FROM HERE!!!!
As a former employee, DO NOT ADOPT, or Take your pets to Jewel Animal Hospital. I have personally seen Dr. Smith hit a dog with hair clippers when it was behaving badly. Dr. Smith uses staples instead of stitches. I can not count the number of times people have brought their pet back in with part of them hanging open because there staples popped. Also she is constantly adopting out dogs and kittens before they are ready to be adopted out. Dogs are always being brought back due to parvo. And this is not even to mention Tisha the secretary/ vet tech. She has the worse attitude of anyone I have ever met.
Adopted my dog here and we always love coming back for our vet checkups.
Should you come across any Jewell Animal Hospital naysayers, I'll say that if you're looking for a cookie cutter veterinary practice with a doctor that will tell you what you want to hear and check boxes, look elsewhere. If you want a veterinarian that will tell it like it is with A LOT of passion, go see Dr. Smith. Her direct, no-nonsense attitude all stems from her passion for doing right by animals. She's not afraid to hurt your feelings if it's what's right for your pet, yet she's never made me feel guilty/ashamed as a pet owner. I think many overlook the fact that not only is Dr. Smith practicing veterinary medicine on a daily basis, but she's also running the business itself as an independent business owner AND running a rescue. Doing just one of those isn't an easy task, let alone all three. I have much respect for Dr. Smith and her staff for how they run their business, their rescue, and ultimately, how they care for every pet that comes through the door, including my own.
My girlfriend just adopted a dog from their rescue, and we could not be happier! She is so sweet and was obviously well taken care of. The adoption counselor Adam was very helpful and knew a lot about her. It was obvious that they actually spend time with the animals to make sure they can find the right match for their adoptive home. Everyone there was very friendly and so excited to see that she was getting adopted. You could tell they have an emotional attachment to the dogs they adopt out. We are super happy with our decision to check them out. If you want an adoption experience that is more personal with a staff that knows what they are doing and actually cares, check them out.
Dr. Smith is covering for my regular vet while he is out of town. I was able to secure a prompt appointment. All of the staff members went above and beyond for me and my dog. I am extremely pleased!
DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!!!
Since that initial visit, I've visited Jewell Animal Hospital for general wellness exams, vaccinations, dental extractions (my pup had some gnarly teeth), and broken bones - and that's just for one of my two dogs! I also recently took in a foster dog that was in very bad shape, and after frantically emailing on a Sunday afternoon about some wormy stool, Jewell Animal Hospital was able to fit me in for an appointment the very NEXT DAY to give my sick little foster her full vetting. What's more, Dr. Smith spent over an HOUR answering my questions about my foster pup all while sitting on the floor playing with her and calming her down. I've never had a vet show so much care about animals or her practice. Previously, I've felt a little talked down to by my veterinarians, but never with Dr. Smith or her staff. They're kind, they're hilarious, they're real, and above all, they're incredible at what they do.
Dr. Smith and the staff at Jewell Animal Hospital are a godsend, and I would be hard-pressed to take my dogs to anyone but them. Here's why:
