On 09/04/2017 I intended to purchase another package of the exact same product, but double-checked to ensure I had not overlooked something before. After confirming $3.99 was indeed the advertised price, I photographed the shelf tag...entirely for the convenience of your cashier. In most establishments (those subscribing to good business practices) that would have been more than sufficient, or at least triggered further inquiry. Please refer to the aforementioned photograph, now included herein.
This place (Universal Supermarket) was great when it first opened; not sure what is going on, but something has clearly changed. Thankfully, we
(2) Inappropriate employee behavior / bad customer service
They are unflinching in their principles, and lack customer service, and are not willing to admit their own mistake.
(2) I would not have been remotely offended if someone physically went to verify the discrepancy depicted in my photograph. Although this is common practice in most retail establishments, no such effort was made.

(1) Simple mistake...no big deal
Fresh fish and crab. Extremely ethnic. Worth s look.
You can find just about anything at this market. Besides food they have kitchen utensils and cookware, plus a decent amount of fresh* meat.
On 08/22/2017 at approximately 1511 hours, I purchased the exact same item from your store. Upon arriving home, I glanced at my receipt and noticed what appeared to be a significant (58%) discrepancy from the advertised price. As the pricing seemed disproportionate to similar items, I was reasonably certain it was merely an error. A copy of my store receipt is now included with this review.
BOTTOM LINE - TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE FOLKS...THESE GUYS ARE A COUPLE OF SHYSTERS!!!!!!!!!

(1) Two store employees were present while I was checking out. At no time did either dispute the validity of my photograph after providing it to your cashier.
*****ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 09/05/2017*****
I cannot believe that after being a loyal customer for two whole years, I got treated like a criminal in what amounted to a mix up, as a friend of mine picked up someone else's shopping by accident as he checked out thinking they were his (the other customers had wandered off to the fridge). I returned to the shop a month later, and they showed me video footage. They even said I wasn't at fault, and that my friend picked it up by accident. I saw the video, it was totally innocent. A mishap. I apologised, and feeling embarrassed, I offered to pay for the loss as a kind gesture, even though I was not at fault. They said they would refund me if I could get the items back to them. But they wouldn't refund me the total cost because the tarrow root had gone bad. I reminded them that I had nothing to do with this, even the video footage confirms that. Nothing. They said that my friend 'knew what he was doing - they've seen it before'. Appalled at their accusation. Don't shop here. Shop at Jay's international instead, you get better prices and friendly customer service. Don't bring your friends here either.
Additionally, having no tolerance for deceitful, dishonest people, I refuse to patronize establishments operated by such individuals; this post is to forewarn others who are thinking of doing business with you. Case in point, your response indicated "The item was barcoded and priced correctly." Fair enough...so I'm sure you can easily explain-away the following:
(3) If your assertion is true, why did the cashier IMMEDIATELY go back to the item in question and remove the shelf tag after I left? The best part is, he tore it up right in front of me and threw it into a trash can adjacent to his register...we even had a brief conversation about it. Whoopsie...somebody clearly didn't anticipate I would come back into the store and catch him red-handed. Lol...BUSTED!!!
While certainly a catalyst for what followed, that really wasn't the issue here; the problem at hand should have been readily apparent in my original post. I am simply not going to put up with an arrogant, smart-mouthed store employee who speaks to customers in a rude, condescending manner. Particularly one who is easily half my age, and over an error created by someone at your store.
Mistakes happen, so what REALLY matters is how you handle the situation thereafter. With that in mind, treating your customers with utter contempt after they point out a $2.30 price discrepancy between the shelf tag and cash register...is inexcusable.
(3) Blatant, outright dishonesty
are fortunate to have several Asian markets in Saint Louis.
Here is the "thing" about this entire scenario; I really didn't care about having been overcharged before. Moreover, had the situation been handled differently (in a polite, professional manner) I likely would have even spent the extra $2.30 and been on my way. Regardless, let's be absolutely clear about something; you were under no obligation (legal or otherwise) to sell me that product at ANY price.
I appreciate a prompt response from the ownership; unfortunately it only further confirms my sense of this establishment. The pictures below clearly demonstrate we have (in less than twenty-four hours) progressed as follows:
Has everything you need for Vietnamese food. Takeout food on sat/sun is great.
