A jaw dropping experience awaits for anyone going to Calvary the first time. The place is massive to the tune of 470 acres. That's almost not right smack in the middle of Saint Louis. Forest Park is 1400 acres and Central Park is 900 acres. They are larger, but 500 for dead people is insane. Anyways, there are plenty of famous people, wildlife, and available grounds for another 200 years of burials. To that point, the Conservation Commission of Missouri has a 100 year lease on a portion of the cemetery. It is one of the few or only area in the state of Missouri that is untouched by man as it was in the time of Lewis and Clark.

Unfortunately, we didn't even have a chance to visit our Grandmother's grave because 3 suspicious cars were speeding through when we arrived. 2 of the cars circled back and got behind us. We came to a fork in the road and I could see the 3rd car waiting up the hill to the right, so I made a left and exited the Cemetery. The thugs in the cars behind us could be seen hand gesturing to the car ahead after we made that left turn, a turn that potentially saved our lives. This are of St. Louis is drug-infested and crime-ridden. Please be alert and safe if you visit. Call the Cemetery and find out best/safest times to visit.

They don't keep up with maintenance as well as they could (like Bellefontaine does) but it's still lovely and a great spot if you enjoy taking pictures - just be respectful.

My Moms here and she Rests Nicely Here.... R.I.P Mom. They just gotta fix the roads around the cemetery

Beautiful Cemetery, the area has gone down but the cemetery is still beautiful, eventually they will come through there and revitalize it...

Historic cemetery with lots of statues and beautiful stones. I have family here so I like to visit a few times a year. The neighborhood is a little sketchy so just be aware of that, once you're inside the gates though I would say you're fine (I've never had a problem).
